Freeman, a pioneer in professional putting, was one of the most revered players in the game from 1960 to 1975, Freeman joined the PPA in 1960 as a charter member. He won the $5,000 PPA Pacific Coast Open in 1962 in Los Angeles, Calif., and appeared on the 1963 and 1965 "PPA Parade of Champions "syndicated television series while establishing himself as one of the premier players in the PPA's first decade. Freeman culminated his career by capturing the 1973 PPA National Championship in Tulsa, Okla., while establishing an 8-round scoring record of 95-under par. He competed in the $100,000 1973 PPA World Putting Championship, his third television appearance. Other PPA victories include the 1969 PPA National Championship Pro-Am and the 1975 Elton Davis Memorial Classic, one of more than 30 triumphs in Freeman's distinguished career. He earned the PPA Tracy Moore Low Stroke Average in 1972 (29.01) and 1973 (27.67). His PPA lifetime national prize money earnings are $36,000. His PPA lifetime stroke average is 29.24. Freeman was a member of the PPA Pros-Players Committee in 1975. He retired in 1977, and was inducted into the PPA Hall of Fame in 1998. |
