Fayetteville, N.C., inducted into the PPA Hall of Fame in 1994, capped his PPA career in 1995 by winning the PPA National
Championship and the PPA Norfolk Open. He owns 3 other PPA
national tour victories - the 1980 Greensboro Open, the 1981
Asheville Open and the 1982 Columbia Open. His runner-up finish
in the 1992 PPA National Championship led North Carolina to the
PPA National Team Championship. He was the 1985 PPA National
Player of the Year and the 1985 PPA Sportsmanship Award
recipient. He is the 1998, 1994, 1992 and 1982 PPA North
Carolina State Tour Champion and the 1998 PPA North Carolina
State Tour Match Play Champion. He is the 1987 and 1985 PPA
South Carolina State Champion. He owns 4 PPA North Carolina
State Tour State Doubles titles. A PPA member since 1973, he
owns 71 PPA State Tour victories - 56 in North Carolina,
including the 1979, 1983, 1984 and 1992 Elton Davis Memorial
Classic and the 1989 and 1991 Richard Buchan Memorial; 14 in
South Carolina; and 1 in Virginia. He has 4 PPA /APA television
appearances, 1998, 1995, 1993 and 1971, when he won the APA
World Putting Championship in Philadelphia, Pa. A PPA member
since 1973, his PPA national tour lifetime prize money winnings
are $34,000. His PPA state tour lifetime earnings are $38,000.
His PPA lifetime stroke average is 28.62. "No one player
has ever better understood the sport - from respecting franchise
owners and managers to understanding the passions of the men,
women and youngsters who enjoy the game," Joe Aboid, PPA
Commissioner, said. "He has worked to protect our sport's
integrity. He has worked to preserve its history."
Kirby is a past member of the Putt-Putt Golf
Courses of America National Advisory Board, 1997-98 chairman of
the PPA Pros Players Committee and conceived the PPA Hall of
Fame in 1986. He is director of the Elton Davis Memorial
Classic, founder of the PPA South Carolina State Tour,
and directed
the PPA North Carolina State Tour from 1977 to 1990. |
