Ricky Schults Defeats Randy Reeves in Finals for the 2008 Louisiana State Championship Title

3 May 2008 - Lake Charles, LA - Ricky Schults of Spartanburg, South Carolina, defeated Randy Reeves of Montgomery, Alabama, after 41 holes of match play to claim the Louisiana Open PPA Championship, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Schults defeated Jeff Carr of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and Tony Varnadore of Rock Hill, South Carolina, en route to his victory, before defeating Reeves on the fifth hole of sudden death. Cliff Matthews of Haltom City, Texas, won the 54 hole medal play event with a score of 74, beating Rick Baird, of Pineville, North Carolina, and Jeff Carr by two strokes. Matthews won the medal play qualifying spot for the Texas State Championship at the end of the year in October in Webster, Texas, and Mike Baldoza of Austin, Texas, won the match play qualifying spot for the Texas State Championship at the end of the year in October in Webster.

Nathan Anderson of Lake Charles, Louisiana defeated Trevor Lewin of Dallas, Texas, 1 up after 36 holes of match play for the Louisiana Open Amateur Championship in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lewin was down three holes with 9 holes left to play and took Anderson to the last hole before Anderson topped him for the victory. Anderson won the match play qualifying spot for the Texas State Championship at the end of the year in October in Webster, Texas. After 54 holes of medal play, Alan Sahmel and Ken Stanfill were tied at 21 under par, 87. Sahmel beat Stanfill in an 18 hole medal play playoff for the medal play spot for the Texas State Championship.

19 August 2007 - Killeen, TX - Cliff Matthews, two-time National Champion won his first Texas State Championship by defeating Wade Sahmel in the final match. Matthews had defeated Gary Reed and Sahmel had defeated Mike Baldoza to reach the finals. Matthews withstood a charge from Sahmel in the middle of the match and aced 14 to claim the title.

Mike Huckaby won the APA Championship with a thrilling sudden death win over John Berger on the first playoff hole. Huckaby had defeated Carey Bailey and Berger had defeated Danny Halpain to reach the finals.

In the State Pro-Am Championship Brice Bergesen and Jason Sheffield won with an incredible 61 for 54 holes to claim the title. The 2007 Texas State Team Championship was won by Danny Hoel, Mike Chisum, David Chisum and Kelly Mize.

Gary Reed Successfully Defends Title in Lubbock, TX

1 July 2007 - Lubbock, TX - The second day of qualifying tournaments in Lubbock, TX took place on A beautiful but warm beginning of July. Gary Reed of Lubbock, TX came out Of the gates with a 25, 3 shots ahead of David Chisum of Wichita Falls, TX , Donnie Halpain of Lubbock, TX and Kelly Mize of Lubbock, TX. The front nine In the second round really slowed the momentum for Reed but a respectable back Left Reed and Chisum in at 54, Halpain and Mize at 55,. Coming down the Stretch Reed bogeyed the Clayton hole which dropped him to 8 under for the Round but aces on 16,17, and 18 gave Reed a 1 shot win over David Chisum. Donnie Halpain of Lubbock, TX was 3rd with 83, and a final round 23 lifted Steve Tanton of Whitney, TX into a 4th place tie with 84. Medal spots went to David Chisum and Donnie Halpain, while Kelly Mize and Steve Tanton won The Match Play spots.

Trevor Lewin of Dallas, TX won the APA Division in Lubbock, TX. By firing A final round 29 and edging Ken Stanfill of Waco, TX. By 1 stroke. Todd Cabe Of Lubbock, TX was third with 92. Spots went to Carey Bailey, Todd Cabe, and Mike Huckaby.

Joel Woodall Blisters Field in Lubbock

30 June 2007 - Lubbock, TX - The local PPA and APA members were pleased to see the unusual turnout in the West Texas city of Lubbock for a pair of Texas qualifying tournaments. It was a Warm June afternoon but the heat would come from one particular player.

Joel Woodall of Lubbock would jump out to a 3 shot lead after 18 over defending champion James Taylor. The second 18 would prove to be the real distance as Joel posted 49 after 2 Rounds and a 5 shot lead over David Chisum. Joel sealed the deal firing a final round 25 And an astonishing 54 hole total of 73, 9 shots better than Chisum. James Taylor came in 3rd with 85, Gary Reed 4th ant 87 and Steve Yates from Springfield, Mo. Grabbed the last Money spot at 88. Joel Woodall and David Chisum earned the 2 medal spots while Tom Adair of Tyler, TX.

In the APA division Carey Bailey of Lubbock topped the APA field with an impressive 54 hole total of 81. Spots went to Carey Bailey, Todd Cabe, and Mike Huckaby. Donnie Halpain of Lubbock, TX were victorious in Match Play.
