James Taylor Rises From Losers Bracket And Wins Midland Match Play

12 June 2010 - Midland, TX - James Taylor won his 2nd tournament of the day when he bested Gary Reed twice to claim the match play victory. Taylor beat Reed 2 up in the first match, and then 3 up with 2 holes remaining for the victory. Reed won the winners bracket by defeating Taylor in their first match 1 up, and then Lee Messinger 5 up with 4 holes left. Taylor worked his way back through the losers bracket to face Reed in the finals by defeating Joel Woodall 1 up, then Messinger 2 up with 1 hole remaining. With the victory, Taylor won a qualifying spot for the WPT Championship in Lake Charles in October.

Tony Newcomb claimed his 4th victory of the year, defeating Danny Tatum twice,1 up and 3 up with 2 holes remaining. Tatum won the winners bracket by defeating Mickey DeLucca, 3 up with 2 remaining, and Newcomb in their first match 1 up. Newcomb beat DeLucca in the losers bracket 3 up with 2 holes remaining, to make it back to the finals to face Tatum. In their first round, Newcomb ended Tatums string of 17 consecutive match play round victories, and then in the second round, Newcomb ended Tatums string of 3 WPT match play event victories. Newcomb won a qualifying spot for the WPT Championship in Lake Charles in October.
