Brice Bergesen Fires 25 in Final Round

Brice Bergesen
of Houston, Texas, won the Professional Division of the Texas State
Qualifying tournament today in Killeen, Texas, by four strokes at 30
under par, 78, over a trio of professionals,
Byron Kirby
of Sulphur, Louisiana,
Mike Baldoza
of Austin, Texas, and
Tom Adair of
Tyler, Texas who tied at 26 under par, 82, and a total field of
fourteen professionals. Kirby took an early three shot lead with a
23 his first round, and was tied with Baldoza at 51 after 36 holes
for a two stroke lead over Bergesen and Adair. Bergesen shot an 11
under par, 25, to capture the victory. Texas State Championship
spots were won by Bergesen and Adair in Medal play and
Joel Baker and
Jeffrey Smith
in Match play.
John Berger
of Tyler, Texas, won the Amateur Division of the Texas State Qualifying
tournament today in Killeen, Texas, by three strokes at 23 under par,
85, over second-place finisher
Carey Bailey
of Lubbock, Texas, and a total field of thirteen amateurs. Berger shot
a ten under par 26 his first round for a four stroke lead over
Jason
Sheffield of Houston, Texas and Joseph Molino of The Woodlands,
Texas. Berger shot another ten under par 26 to widen his lead to four
strokes over Bailey, who shot the lowest round of the day with an
outstanding eleven under par 25. Although Berger didn't finish as
strong as he started, his last round 33 was more than enough to secure
the victory. Texas State Championship spots were won by Berger and
Bailey in Medal play and Sheffield and
Adam Sahmel
in Match play.
