Baldoza Sweeps Tournaments in Webster, TX
29 April 2007 - Webster, TX
- The Texas Tour would compete on the course 1 which is
expected to be the final course during Nationals. The scores
would show a tougher course than was played the previous day
but much of the danger of the course was negated with
slowness of the new carpets.
Brice Bergesen would lead the way in the first round with an 8
under 28, the lowest round on the day, and a one stroke lead over
Don Parker,
Byron
Kirby and Mike Baldoza. Brice would struggle in
the second round and a 2 under 34 put him in a bad spot four strokes
behind the lead going to the last round
Three players would take advantage of Brices 2nd round. Mike
Baldoza, Danny Tatum and Don Parker would all tie with the lowest
2nd round of 7 under 29. This would leave Mike and Don tied for the
lead with Danny sitting one stroke back. With no other player within
4 strokes of the lead it would take a collapse of all three players
or a lights out round from a trailer.
Danny Tatum would fall out of contention early with a poor front
nine leaving Mike and Don to battle it out for the win. Both players
were solid throughout the round shooting matching 7 under 29s and
leaving them tied after three rounds. Of the trailing players only
Brice was able to make any move a second 8 under 28 pushed him past
Danny to take third place but he could not catch Don and Mike who
would now have to decide things in a playoff.
It would be a tight playoff round throughout but Don was unable
get ahead of Mike who took his second win of the weekend. Both
players received state spots and
Jeffrey Smith and Byron Kirby got
the additional available state spots in match play.
