Jay Klapper Edges Daryl Freeman for Victory
24 September 2006 - Spartanburg, SC - A perfect nine at the close of the Sparkle City Open made Jay Klapper victorious for the second time this season on the Southern Tour. Klapper was in a dead heat against Daryl Freeman in each of the first two rounds and was trailing by one shot to Frank Warren, who was gunning for his first tour win.
Warren fired a final round 28 that would open the door for Klapper. The 2005 National Champion would use a perfect nine in the final round on the back nine to proclaim his first win on the tour since he won the Palmetto Classic earlier this season.
Klapper's final round 24 gave him a score of 75, good enough to win by one over Freeman, who shot 25 and finished in second at 76. Rick Culverhouse secured the Southern Tour's first Player of the Year crown with a third place finish. Culverhouse shared the third position with Warren at 78. Rick Baird finished in fifth at 80.
The Southern Putting Tour has closed out its regular season. There is one more event left on the tour as the first annual Southern Tour Championship will take place on Course 1 in High Point. The two-day, eight round event will commence on Saturday, October 7 at 12:00 p.m. and will finish up on Sunday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m.
