Jay Klapper Comes from Behind to Win

2006 Palmetto Classic Champion11 June 2006 - Spartanburg, SC - Reigning PPA National Champion Jay Klapper posted a final round 26 to come from three strokes down to claim his first Palmetto Classic title on Sunday. Klapper passed Rick Baird in the final round to win by one stroke after Baird had completely dominated the action in Spartanburg on Course 2.
Baird opened play with a 23 and followed it up with rounds of 25 and 26 to lead by three shots over three other players, including Klapper. Baird ran into a stretch where he made only one ace over the final seven holes and was unable to finish off a wire-to-wire victory.
Klapper came through with a 26 to leapfrog over Baird and won the Palmetto Classic, his first major win since winning the National Championship. Klapper shot 103, while Baird finished tied for second with Randy Reeves at 104. Former Palmetto champion Michael Hitt backed up his amazing win on Saturday with a fourth place tie with Brad Lebo at 105.

Final Round 26 Earns Barry Moore Victory in
Amateur Division of 2006 Palmetto Classic11 June 2006 - Spartanburg, SC - Barry Moore was victorious in the APA Division in a tightly-packed race. Where six players were separated by two strokes going into the final round, Moore fires a 26 in the final round to edge out Larry Smith, who won the Match Play Championship on Saturday.
Moore posted a final score of 109. Smith came in second at 110. Jeff Carr, winner of the 2004 Palmetto, claimed third at 111. The win for Moore was his second of the season on the Southern Tour and his first Palmetto title.
The next Southern Tour weekend is on June 24 & 25 in Martinez as they will be preparing for the Nationals, which will be played in a matter of weeks. The Saturday tournament on the Blue Course will begin at 12:00pm, while Sunday's play on the Red Course gets underway at 10:00am.
