Nate Nichols Earns Third Victory of 2006 on NPT in Richmond Open
6 August 2006 - Richmond, IN - Edinburgh, Indianas Nate Nichols picked up his 3rd medal play win of the 2006 season, winning by 5 strokes over Roger Beckerman. After round 1, it was Nichols and Peter Neumann leading the pack, after each fired 9 under par, 27s. Round 2 saw Nichols maintain his lead after shooting a 10 under par, 26 that put him 4 shots ahead of Roger Beckerman and Tim Greenert. The field as a whole began to struggle in round 3, as Nichols and Beckerman were the only 2 players able to crack 30. Nichols managed a 29 compared to Beckermans 28. With 1 round to play it was Nichols 82 and Beckerman 85. The next closest competitor was Peter Neumann at 89. Beckerman struggled in the final round, as he was only able to get it to 30, and a final score of 115 which opened the door for Nichols to coast down the stretch to secure the win as he finished up with an 8 under par 28, for a 4 round score of 110. A fine final round 26 by Paul Pastilong vaulted him into 3rd place at 116, while Peter Neumann and James Weber rounded out the cash spots at 119.
In the amateur division, Zach Smith picked up the win by 2 strokes over Anthony Russell. It was the second time in 2 days that Russell finished 2 strokes out in 2nd place. Jeff Brown was 3rd, with Josh Garrison taking 4th, Saturdays winner Kyle Poole ended up 5th.
