Rick Culverhouse Earns First Win of
2005 Season with Four Stroke Victory

3 April 2005 - Forest City, N.C. - Rick Culverhouse posted the South Carolina Tour's largest margin of victory to date this season by cruising to a four-shot victory. Culverhouse led wire-to-wire, including an opening round 23 that set the standard for his first victory since July, 2004.

Opening with a 23, Culverhouse grabbed a two-shot lead on local veteran Allen Wall. The lead grew to four shots on Wall and Saturday's winner Darrell Britt after he posted a 26 in the second round to go into the clubhouse at 49.

2004 PPA World Match Play Championship (19 July 2004).

No one made any threat to overcome Culverhouse's performance on a typically seasonal day in Forest City. Culverhouse fired a final round 27 and would coast to win by four shots over Wall. Culverhouse shot 76 to post the tour's lowest score of the season to date. The margin of four strokes was the first time somebody won by that margin since Daryl Freeman won in an afternoon tournament in Columbia last season and it was the largest margin of victory since Greg Ward posted a seven-shot win in Spartanburg last season and Vince Batten did the same in White Lake last season.

Also with a four-shot win in the APA Division was Ricky Schults. Schults picked up his first win since winning the 2004 APA Virginia State Championship last year and rallied from a slim first round deficit to win. Only trailing Jeff Carr by one shot, Schults took control after Carr's second round misfortunes. Schults shot 29 in the second round to lead at 55 and cruised to his first win of the year. Schults posted a final score of 81 for a four-shot win over Carr. Carr finished in second at 85 and third went to Dennis Biesma at 86.

Finishing in second behind Culverhouse was Wall with a score of 80. Michael Hitt and Tony Jackson came in a tie for third at 83, and Britt, Ward, and Jay Klapper rounded out the top five at 84. Culverhouse won the South Carolina State spot and the World Match spot from this event. Ray Guthrie, with a weekend score of 167, took the weekend's two-day spot.

The next scheduled weekend will be in two weeks in Columbia. They will compete in conjunction with the North Carolina Tour and will play on Course 2. The first event will be played Saturday, April 16 at 12:00 p.m. On Sunday, April 17, the 21st Carolinas' Open will be played at 9:00 a.m., with Greg Ward defending in the Pro Division and Steve Helton defending in the APA Division.
