Darrell Britt Earns
Second Victory of the 2005 Season

2 April 2005 - Forest City, N.C. - Darrell Britt notched his second win in just four tournaments played in this 2005 season and did so this time with a two-shot victory over Todd Fowler. The difference in the first of two events this weekend in Forest City was decided in the second round when Britt shot 25 to grab a two-shot lead and held on for the victory.

Forest City has hosted many South Carolina events over the years, but it was the first time that the facility was played with a brand new face lift. At the end of the 2004 season, rails was replaced from aluminum to wood and the carpet had to be resurfaced from the regular green to an array of different colors from hole to hole. The carpet was thicker than it was the old carpet, somewhat similar to the first generation of carpet laid in 1996. Scores were projected to be much higher than in the past, but an abundance of rain that fell through the area for a couple of days prior to this weekend's tournaments made a difference on the scores. Britt was the only player under 80, and 15 out of the 24 players in the Pro Division broke 90.

Britt shared the opening round lead with Fowler with a 26 and then shot 25 to grab the outright lead at 51. Fowler and local Brian Hutchins were two back of the lead at 53 and fourth was three back in Rick Baird, who rebounded from an opening round 31 to shoot the day's best score of 23. Britt would hang on to win for the second time this season. Shooting a final round 28, it would be enough to capture the win and break 80 on the day. Britt finished the tournament with a score of 79.

Chris Hudson placed in the win column for the first time this season by pulling out from a second round deadlock with two-time winner Barry Moore. Hudson was tied with Moore at 59 and took advantage of Moore's mishaps in the final round. Hudson gained that advantage with a final round 28 and won by four shots over Dennis Biesma and Jeff Carr.

Hudson finished the tournament as the only APA player that broke 90 and shot 87. Carr and Biesma both were at 91, and fourth was Ricky Schults at 92.

Fowler finished in second at 81 and earned the South Carolina State spot. Hutchins finished tied with Ray Guthrie for third at 82, and fifth went to Randy Reeves at 83. Britt grabbed the World Match Play spot from this event.

The South Carolina Tour resumes its weekend at 10:00 a.m. on Course 1 in Forest City.
