2005 Howard Loy Memorial Champion

The 11th annual Howard Loy Memorial was being contested
under gorgeous playing conditions and very little wind.
Despite improvements in conditions, scores were higher than
what was turned in on Saturday.
The opening round lead belonged to
Robert Johnson,
Bear Landin,
and Rick Rybaczek,
all posting 27's to start the tournament, one shot worse than Saturday's
opening round low score set by Landin and several other players. That
score was posted a total of nine different times in this event, but Baus
posted two of those as it helped him win.
One of the other 26's belonged to Johnson that would give him the
lead by one shot on Baus and Rybaczek. Johnson was in at 53, while the
other two were at 54. Landin dropped to fourth and was tied with
Matt Summey at
55. Baus broke it open and put the tournament out of reach with second
his 26 of the tournament and put together a final score of 80. Baus won
by three shots over Landin and Summey, each finishing second at 83. The
win for Baus is his first career in the state of North Carolina.
Johnson and Rybaczek were tied for fourth at 84. Landin
defeated Summey for the low medalist
qualifying spot into the North Carolina State Championship and the Match
Play spot as well. Johnson won the two-day low spot.
Jeff Carr
worked his way to victory by posting a final round 25 to clip
Ricky Schults
by one stroke. Carr was sitting in third through two rounds and trailed
Frankie Peters
by three shots heading into the last round before pulling one out for
his first APA win of the season. Carr would win his third career NC
event since returning to play in 2002, but it was his first win as a
NC-only event. Carr's 25 gave him a final score of 84. Schults finished
in second at 85. Peters tied
Dennis Biesma
for third at 87. Schults grabbed the first APA State qualifying spot
based on his two-day low score.
The North Carolina Tour returns to action on the weekend of April
16th and 17th. The tour will play in Columbia
for the first time in its history as they will compete in joint events
with the South Carolina Tour. The first tournament will be on Course 2,
starting at 10:00 a.m.
on Saturday, April 16th. The 21st Carolinas' Open, also on Course 2 will be played on Sunday, April
