Roger
Beckerman reversed his fortunes on Sunday in Springfield, OH
following a last place finish the day before in the 2005 Southwest
Ohio Open with a victory in the 2005 Switzer Classic.

Tied after four rounds at 113 with
James Weber
and Dave Nutini,
Beckerman closed with rounds of 26 and 27 to pull away for a two
stroke victory with a 108 hole score of 166, 50 under par. The
victory also earned Beckerman his second qualification spot in the
2005 PPA World Match Play Championship to be played in Louisville,
KY in July.
James Weber, who was tied with Beckerman with
36 holes to play, shots rounds of 28 and 27 to finish alone in
second at 168. Dave Nutini fired a strong round of 27 in the fifth
round but then struggled in the final round posting a score of 35
and falling into a third place finish at 175. Finishing in a tied
for fourth were
Jim Heikkinen and
Scott Buddie
at 176.
In the amateur division, it was a two player
race with Andy
McCoy leading
Scott
Copeland by one stroke with 36 holes to play. Copeland pulled
into the lead with a fifth round of 29 but could not hold onto the
lead with his final round 32. McCoy shot 31 and 30 in his final two
rounds to post a 108 hole score of 176, 40 under par, and a one
stroke victory. Copeland was alone in second at 177 with Tyler Lacey
in third at 180. |
