25 June 2005 - Springfield, OH - Since becoming a PPA Pro in 1987, Mark Hasty had recorded two match play tournaments wins (2001 - Richmond, IN and 2002 - Springfield, OH) but had not been able to win a medal play event. Hasty posted a runner-up finish in Lynchburg, VA in a PPA Virginia State Tour events in 2001 on the weekend prior to the 2001 PPA National Championship. With opening rounds of 29 and 26, Mark Hasty entered the final round in the 2005 Southwest Ohio Open with a two stroke lead over Paul Johns and an opportunity to post his first medal play PPA state tour victory. A final round 33 by Paul Johns left him in a sixth place at 90, 18 under par, but two other players would put together final round charges in an attempt to catch Hasty. James Weber who opened with rounds of 31 and 27 to trail by three strokes entering the final round posted a final round 29 for a score of 87, 21 under par. Dave Nutini used a final round 26 to also post a score of 87. However, Hasty's final round of 31 was enough to hold off Weber and Nutini. Hasty posted a 54 hole score of 86, 22 under par, for the victory. In the amateur division, Scott Copeland lead Jeff Brown by one stroke entering the final round but would fall into a tie at 90 after Copeland fired a final round 31 while Brown put together a final round 30. Jeff Brown defeated Scott Copeland in the 18 hole playoff for the victory and the Great Lakes Tour Championship qualification spot. Scores provided by Robb Titchell
