Scott Copeland put aside the
disappointing finishing rounds from the Springfield Open and fired rounds of 27,
27 and 28 for a tournament best 54 hole score of 82, 26 under par.
Josh Garrison was alone in
second at 88 with rounds of 28, 30 and 30, with
Andy McCoy in third at 89 and
Brandon Davis and Jeff Brown in a
tie for fourth at 92.

In the professional ranks,
Peter Neumann opened with rounds of
26 and 26 to lead by three strokes over
Jim
Cruse at 55 entering the final round of play. Neumann aced his two opening
two holes (#3 and #4) before going cold in his final round. Neumann bogeyed hole
#11 to fall to 1 under and finished with a final round 33 after making holes #14
and #15. With his poor final round, the group of players who entered the final
round trailing by three of more strokes had their opening.
Jim Cruse who entered
the final round at 55 posted a final round 33 to finish in a tie for sixth with
Jim Heikkinen,
Ken Hastings and
Mark Hasty.
Nate Nichols and
Dave Nutini, both a 56 entering the
final round, posted final rounds of 30 to finish in a tie for second at 86 with
Bennie Williams in a tie for
fourth at 87 with John Ventura after
a final round 31. The final round scoring average among the nine professionals
who cashed was 30.89 after averaging 29.11 and 27.00 in the opening two rounds.
Scott Copeland was not finished after his dominating performance
in the medal as he went on to also win the match play defeating Josh Garrison in
the finals. In the professional match play, Jim Heikkinen won four straight
matches defeating Jim Engel in the finals. The four match victories were the
first four of the 2005 season for Heikkinen who had lost his first seven matches
on the Great Lakes Tour this year.
