Brad Lebo Wins
his Second Title of the 2004 Season on the PPA Virginia State Tour
16 May 2004 - Abingdon, MD - Overnight rain
fell through Abingdon, MD Saturday night
warranting play to be more difficult in terms of scores on Sunday.
Players would have to work hard to break 80. Saturday's cash line was at
80 for a full share. On Sunday, 80 would be good enough to win.

Ironically, the first to miss cash at 81 on Saturday would win
Sunday's tournament.
Brad Lebo
held in check and fought off a field where only nine strokes
separated the entire 20-player field and the top ten, which was the
cash area, was only separated by a mere three strokes.
Drizzle and early morning fog lifting way to sunshine at the end of
the tournament were the major elements in northeastern Maryland on
Sunday. Scores did jump high as opposed to the average on Saturday,
except for
Justin Taylor, who posted an opening round 23 to lead by three
shots. Somehow, he was reminded that the course was playing in difficult
shape. Taylor only shot two under in the
second round to drop all the way down to a tie for seventh.
Bill Baus,
making the six-plus hour drive from Cleveland, took the second round
lead at 53, nine shots worse than the second round leading score on
Saturday, with
Mike Brown, who was the leader after two rounds Saturday before
falling out of victory lane, and Lebo both one shot back at 54. Down the
stretch, it would be Lebo pulling away with a win. Lebo shot 27 to
overtake Baus and finished with a score of 81. Baus fired a final round
29 to fall out by one shot at 82.
There would be a playoff for first in the APA Division as
Bonnie White
and Chuck Dibbs
fought off after both finishing with a score of 81. White was down four
shots after the first round and fought back to force a playoff against
Dibbs. In the playoff, White would be the winner by firing 28 to Dibbs'
31. The win was White's first win of the season on the Virginia tour.
Justin Taylor and Mike
Brown both finished tied for third at 83. There was a six-way tie
for fifth at 84, good enough to complete the 10-player cash line.
Amongst those in the tie were
Vince Batten,
Gilbert
Sharpe, Ed
Grajewski,
Jonathan
Moore,
Rick Rybaczek, and
James White.
The Virginia tour returns to action next weekend, May 22 & 23 in
Charlottesville for a pair of events. There is a tournament on Course 2
on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
and the sixth annual Dogwood Festival Open will be played on Sunday, May
23 at 10:00 a.m.
with Greg Newport defending his title.
