David Lynch
Coasts to Six Stroke Victory in Waco, TX after Second Round 24
12 June 2004 - Waco, TX - The Texas Putting
tour swung into the summer at the Waco, Texas course and saw the biggest
turnout of the year.
Rodney Phillips first round 9 under 27 was the only
score under 30 and staked him to a three stoke lead. The second round
saw David Lynch shoot one of the best rounds in Waco ever. His 12 under
24 was 5 better than any other player in the second
round. Going to the last round David
held a 4-stroke lead over Rodney with
Lee Messinger 6 back. No player
was able to tame the Waco course in the last round but most everybody
played to the norm on the course, between 29 and 31. Only three of the
sixteen players shot outside that range. With no one able to put any
pressure on him David walked to the win. Rodney Phillips finished 2nd 6
back with Lee Messinger taking third 7 back of David. This was David's
first win of the year, the win also garnered him a state and world spot.
Addition state spots went to
Cliff Matthews and
Mike Chisum in match
play competition.
Rhet Wylie played three solid rounds with
two 30's and a 31. That kind
of solid play has been enough to win in the APA at Waco before, in fact
Rhet won by four at Waco with an identical score last year, but this
year it was different.
Mickey DeLucca put on a show over the last two
rounds. His 18 under 54 was better by 5 than any other player, Pro or
Amateur, in the field with the exception of David Lynch at 19 under 53.
The win gave Mickey his 4th State spot and second win of the year.
Additional spots went to
Dave Blalock and
Jason Sheffield in match play
competition.
