Brice Bergesen Opens 2004 Season With Victory in Lake Charles, LA

PPA Touring Pro27 March 2004 - Lake Charles, LA - The Texas Putting Tour opened its season on beautiful day in southern Louisiana. Defending champion Brice Bergesen had come out on a mission last year and swept the opening weekend events. Things looked to be similar this year as Brice jumped all over the field with an opening round 13 under 23. Only Joel Baker was able to stay close to Brice sitting one behind. Brice continued to be the best player over the last two rounds. His 19 under was the best in the field and gave him a comfortable win of four strokes and a state spot. Joel Baker held on the second place with Mike Baldoza finishing third six back of Brice. Match play saw Joel Baker and Steve Tanton win to take the two available state spots.
The amateur division saw Mickey DeLucca Jump to and early lead. His 9 under 27 in the first round put him well ahead of most of the field with only Gary Glasscock able to get under thirty. Gary was able to make up the difference during the second round and he and Mickey were tied three strokes ahead of the rest of the field. In a tight finish at least four different players had opportunities to take the win but all faltered in some way coming down the stretch allowing Mickey to take the win and a state spot with a 90. Kenny Beck and Chance Marett finished second two strokes back. Kenny Beck and Mike Huckaby took the remaining two available state spots available in match play.
