David Lynch
Wins PPA Oklahoma State Tour Event in Lawton, OK
15 August 2004 - Lawton, OK - Waking up
Sunday morning and stepping out to face the day, your heart drops as the
rain came down. After such a beautiful day Saturday for the Texas event
you knew it would be a tough miserable day on the greens today. Some
would not even attempt it, after traveling to Lawton from other
locations miles down the road, they would head home early for the day.
But those who stayed showed the heart that keeps this sport going. We
could all give up in adversity, but then our sport would have folded
years ago.
The course was totally soaked. Two holes were starting to become
unplayable due to the inches of water building up across the carpet.
Two holes were following close behind. Practice was spent finding
out how hard you would have to hit the ball to get it through the
puddles. Yes, this was one of those days that you do not worry about
statistics like stroke average.
Two people started the day like they were playing on the west
coast on a perfect, sunny day. David Lynch in the PPA division
started the day by acing the first six holes and shooting a 28 and
Trevor Lewin in the APA division started off with a 4-under 32 to
set the bar low for the amateurs.
In the second round, David removed his chokehold on the
competition by shooting a 34 and allowing Rod Phillips to move
within two with a second round total score of 64. David Lynch
decided to get back on the ace machine for the final round and shot
a final round of 29 and a total for the day of 91. Rod Phillips came
in second, 7 strokes back, with a 98. State spots went to David
Lynch, Rod Phillips and Jody Kimble.

Jeffrey
Smith Wins PPA Texas State Tour Event in Lawton, OK
14 August 2004 - Lawton, OK - For the first
time ever the Texas Tour ventured north of the Red River into Oklahoma
for a Texas event. Lawton was the place and Jody Kimble from Ft. Smith,
Arkansas took the opening round lead with 9 under 29. The rest of the
field was all within four strokes of the lead. A second round 11 under
25 from Jeffrey Smith gave him the lead going to the last round with
Jody sitting one stroke behind and Rodney Phillips three back. Jeffrey
shot a descent last round at 7 under 29 but none of the players in
contention were able to pop a last round and catch him. Jeffrey took the
win at 23 under 85 with Rodney Phillips taking second place and the
automatic state spot two back and Jody Kimble coming in third three
back. Mike Chisum took the additional state spot in match play
competition.
