Greg Newport and Rick Rybaczek Win
2004 PPA National Doubles Championship

20 July 2004 - Richmond, VA - The team of Greg Newport and Rick Rybaczek won the 2004 PPA National Doubles Championship with rounds of 23, 18, 20 and 24 for a 72 hole total of 85, 59 under par. Newport and Rybaczek finished two strokes ahead of Kevin Lacey and Greg Ward in second at 87 and John Bambling and Jim Engel in third at 90.

The 2004 PPA National Doubles Championship opened with a round of alternate shot on course #1 followed by better ball rounds on courses #3 and course #1 before closing with a round of alternate shot on course #3. The competition featured four perfect rounds of 18 in the better ball competition including the round by Newport and Rybaczek on course #3 in the second round. Vince Batten and Darrell Anderson fired an 18 in their second round on course #3 with rounds of 18 fired by the team of John Bambling and Jim Engel and the team of Steve Lyon and Vance Randall on course #1 in their third round.

The amateur team of Marty Handschuh and Malcolm Shumaker won the 2004 APA National Doubles Championship with rounds of 23, 23, 22 and 25 for a 72 hole total of 93, 51 under par. The team of Jeff Carr and Larry Hoover finished alone in second at 95 with the team of Chuck Dibbs and Mike Matthews and the team of Michael Foster and James Taylor in a tie for third at 97.
