2004 APA World Match Play Champion20 July 2004 - Richmond, VA - Michael Foster of Smithville, MO earned the 2004 APA World Match Play Championship defeating Larry Smith of Birmingham, AL 6 and 5. Foster who won the amateur division of the 2003 ProPutters.com Classic in Lubbock, TX last year earned his second major APA title in the past year. On his way to the title, Foster defeated Bennie Williams of Springfield, OH, the 2001 JPA Individual Champion in his first match 1 up. Foster then defeated Larry Hoover of Winston-Salem, N.C. 7 and 6, James Taylor of Lubbock, TX 2 up and Ricky D. Schults of Spartanburg, S.C. 2 and 1 in the semifinal match.
On his way to the championship match, Larry Smith defeated Amy Smith of Glen Allen, VA 1 up, Jeff Carr of Orangeburg, S.C. 1 up and Mike Matthews of Chesapeake, VA 2 up.
