Nate Nichols Wins First Pro Event in "Southport Open"
Nate Nichols, winner of the "Southport Open" on the PPA Indiana State Tour.
19 June 2004 - Southport, IN - "Hooray for Hollywood!" Nate Nichols won his first Professional Tournament on the IPPT capturing the Southport Open on the toughest playing course on the tour this season. Nichols fired rounds of 31, 29 and a final round 26 for a 22 under par 86. Nichols final round 26 was the low round of the day for both the professional and amateur divisions.
Tom Morrison finished second in the event with a 17 under par 91. Shawn Gilliland and Jerry Pinotti tied for third and the last cash spot shooting identical 16 under par 92's. The old style course provided a tough challenge for the tournament . Hole three features the old style "Bucket Hole" that garnered scores as high as 7 during the day.
Tom Morrison won the Match Play Tournament winning 3 matches on his way to his first win on the IPPT this year.
Dave Hager Wins APA Southport Open
19 June 2004 - Southport, IN - Dave Hager picked up his first IPPT Tour Victory with a 1 shot win in the Southport Open. Hager fired rounds of 34, 28 and 29 for a 17 under par 91. John Watkins and Zach Smith tied for second one shat back at 16 under par 92. Bill Hammons finished fourth at 11 under par 97 and Scott McCutchen finished fifth with a 10 under par 98.. Zach Smith picked up the Match Play victory winning three straight matches.
