Tim Greenert,
host pro for the first major of the 2004 season
on the PPA Indiana State Tour, captured the IPPT South Major
defeating a solid 32 player field made up
of professionals from the Indiana and Great Lakes Tours.
Greenert, of the Indiana Tour, put together rounds of 24, 28 and
23 to be the only putter to break 80 in the first three rounds. His
23 tied with 3 other players for low round of the 6 round event. Tim
finished the tournament with rounds of 30, 30 and 26 for a 162, 54
under par and a 2 shot victory over second year pro
Nate Nichols
of Edinburgh who finished at 164. Nichols, who also plays on the
Indiana Tour, fired a final round 24 to close the gap to 2 strokes.
Jim
Heikkinen, 2003 PPA World Match Play
Champion, and
Robin Ventura
of the Great Lakes Tour finished in a tie for third place at 166, 50
under par, while
Tom Gross
of Seymour placed 5th with a 6 round total 167.
In the Amateur Division, third generation Putt-Putt Tournament
Player Josh
Garrison fired a 6 round total 172 to win by 1 stroke over
Amateur Veteran
Bill Hammons
of Indianapolis. Hammons finished one shot back at 173.
Barb Mingo
placed a solid third at 174 while
Andy "Duck"
McCoy placed fourth at 179.
Scott
Copeland rounded out the top five with a 32 under par 184.
