Paul Johns played
the Ypsilanti course to near perfection in shooting a record tying 142
for 108-holes and winning the Michigan Open. Even more impressive is the
margin of victory; 19 shots over
Brandon Yee.
Johns posted impressive rounds of 26-24-22-23-23-24 for a total score of
142, 74 under par.
Played under nearly perfect weather conditions, the
Michigan Open began with Brandon Yee of Columbus, OH
firing a 22 to take the early lead by three over former
National Medal Play Champion
John
Napoli of Clearwater, FL. Yee was joined by current
GLT state champion Paul Johns and former National
Champion
Roger Beckerman at the score of 50 after the second
round. Johns 22 in round three gave him a five-shot lead
at 72 at the 54-hole lunch break over Yee’s 77
When the forth round was over Johns had shot a four
round score of 95 and had stretched his lead to 10 shots
over Yee and Beckerman. By the end of the fifth round
the lead had grown to 14 shots and Johns score of 118
included another 23. All that was left was to see what
the final score would be after the sixth round. The six
round record of 142 shot by Brad Lebo at Richmond, VA
was tied by Johns after shooting a final round 24. In
second place was Brandon Yee shooting a score of 161.
Beckerman finished third at 165 and two players tied for
fourth place:

Ventura of Cincinnati, OH and John Napoli of
Cleveland, OH at 167. GLT spots were claimed by
Paul Johns,
Brandon Yee, John
Ventura, John Napoli, and
Bill
Baus.
Andy McCoy wins his First GLT Event of 2004
11 July 2004 - Ypsilanti, MI –
Andy McCoy of Columbus, OH came from behind by
shooting an impressive final three rounds of 76-32 under
par and shooting a total of 167 to win the APA division
of the Michigan Open. McCoy was 7 shots down to local
APA and JPA member Catherine Simpson who was in at 84.
McCoy shot rounds of 30-29-32-26-24-26.
National APA
champion
Bonnie White finished second and with this good
showing was off to the nationals in Richmond, VA to
defend her titles.
