21 June 2003 - Richmond, IN - 26 June 2004 – Warren, OH – 2000 television contestant Jim Cruse and current 2003 Great Lakes Champion Paul Johns proved to be a good combination in the third annual Great Lakes Doubles Championship. Cruse and Johns posted a dominating six stroke victory in the 2004 PPA Great Lakes Double Championship in Warren, OH. Cruse and Johns finished at 101 with Craig Williams and Mike O'Rourke in second at 107 and Dave Nutini and Robb Titchell at 108. Scott Copeland and Andy McCoy defeated Bonnie White and Walt Kizzie for the amateur title in a playoff after both teams tied at 112, one stroke ahead of Barb Mingo and Jeff Brown in third at 113.
The first round was better ball competition, and Cruse and Johns put on a show in making the first 14 holes and finishing with a 19 for the better ball portion of the competition. They recorded a deuce only at the seventeenth hole. Beckerman/Miller and Engel/Bambling found themselves in second at 22, three behind Cruse/Johns. The second round was alternate shot. Cruse/Johns and William/O’Rourke matched 26’s, and Cruse/Johns increased their lead to five strokes. The final round of combined score saw Cruse/Johns shot a combined score of 56 and a 6 shot victory margin.
Scott Copeland and Andy McCoy Take the 2004 APA Doubles Title 26 June 2004 – Warren, OH – An unlikely pairing of two players work out for the best as Scott Copeland and Andy McCoy teamed up to win the APA Doubles Championship over Bonnie White and Walt Kizzie in a playoff. Both teams shot a score of 112. The winners trailed by four after the better ball competition, but their 26 in alternate shot got them into second place one shot behind White/Kizzie who shot a two round total of 51. Copeland/McCoy shot a combined score of 60 to make up the one shot deficit and forge a playoff with White /Kizzie team.
