|
26 June 2004 - Warren, OH -
Rod Miller is used
to winning and on the Warren course and this was just another day at the
course. For the past couple of years Rod has dominated the Warren
Putt-Putt Course as if he played there every week. Rod defeated
Bill Thompson
in an 18-hole playoff to win the Mahoning Valley Classic. Both players
tied at 83 on course #2, three strokes ahead of
Robb Titchell
and Rick Alessi
who both shot 86.
Miller opening 29 put him 5 shots behind first
round leader
Roger Beckerman. In the second round Miller was able to put up a
little better score of 27 and cut Beckerman's and
James Weber’s
lead to 2 shots. In the final round Miller again put up a score of 27,
but this was good enough to forge a tie with Thompson because Beckerman
and Weber shot final round scores of 35 and fell of the pace. The
victory earned Rod Miller his second GLT spot and a second qualification
spot in the 2004 PPA World Match Play Championship. Thompson also earned
a GLT spot for finishing runner up in the playoff.
