Pennsylvania Open |
1 May 2004 - Monroeville, PA - The spectacular
weather on Saturday and one of the Great Lakes Tour's best scoring
courses made conditions ideal for most of players.
Jim Cruse
combined solid play and a little luck to squeak out a one-shot victory
in a playoff with
Jim Engel
of Monroeville, PA.
It was Engel who was leading the tournament after
round one shooting a fine 25. In second place was local player
Ken Hastings
and Gahanna’s Paul Johns; both shot 26. In round two Engel responded with a 28 for
a 36 hole score of 53, but still Engel only had a 1 shot lead over Cruse
and Johns as both players were in at 54. In the final round Engel
continued to play very well by shooting a final round 26 and a 54 hole
score of 79, but this could only get him a tie for first as Cruse shot a
final round 25 to tie Engel at 79. The two players had an 18 hole
playoff and Cruse was able to defeat Engel by one shot and claim his
second Great Lakes Tour spot.
Dom Perry
claimed his first Great Lakes Tour spot by defeating
John Ventura
in the match play finals.
