6 September 2003 - Roanoke, VA - After barely finishing in the cash during the morning tournament, Mike Brown rebounded to come away with the tour's leading fifth win of the season on the Virginia tour. Brown battled off Darrell Anderson after the opening round and jumped out in front for good to win in Roanoke on Saturday afternoon.Mike Brown Earns Fifth Victory

PPA Touring ProBrown and Anderson jumped out to an opening round 24 and led by two strokes over Vince Batten. In the second round, Anderson stumbled to fire a 29 and Brown responded with a 26 to take the outright lead at 50. Brown would lead by three shots over three players, including Anderson, Kevin Garrett, and Jonathan Moore.
Anderson and Batten tried to come back and overtake Brown. Batten fired a final round 24 and Anderson shot 25 to finish at 78. Brown, playing in the final group, came through with a 25 in the final round and won by three shots over Anderson and Batten. The win for Brown is his fifth this season on the Virginia tour. Anderson finished in second for the second consecutive time this weekend and tied Batten for second. Garrett was fourth at 79, while fifth event to Peter Neumann at 81.
Duane Johnson picked up his first career APA victory. Johnson posted straight rounds of 28 apiece to knock off local defender Dennis Biesma by one shot. Johnson took the lead outright by one stroke over Walter Kolb and held on to win by one as he posted his third consecutive 28. Johnson finished with a score of 84, with Biesma in second at 85. Kolb tied Bill Garrett and Amy Smith for third at 87.
The next scheduled event on the Virginia tour will be Sunday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. in Roanoke.
