Brice Bergesen Wins by Three Strokes on PPA Texas Tour in Longview, TX

Winner of the PPA Texas State Tour event in Longview, TX (4 May 2003)4 May 2003 - Longview, TX - Brice Bergesen continued his strong start to the season in the first round at Longview firing the best round of the day at 11 under 25. This gave Brice a three stroke lead over five players with another four players 4 back. A solid second round 29 kept Brice in the lead. Only two players were able to make up any ground on Brice in the second round. Rainey Statum shot a 10 under 26 to get within 5 and Keith Barfield with an 8 under 28 was now within two of Brice. Brice did not let up in the last round and his 8-under 28 was only matched by one other player, David Lynch. The three stroke win by Brice was his third win in only four events this season. The win also gave him his fourth and final state spot. David's last round 28 moved him to third place five back and Keith Barfield maintained his second place position.
The two available match play spots went to Rainey Statum who defeated Greg Roberts, Wade Sahmel and Keith Barfield and David Lynch who defeated Steve Tanton, Jon Drexler and Mike Baldoza.
After two rounds in the amateur division it was almost a two player battle between James Kile and Neal Armstrong with only Mickey DeLucca somewhat close five back of the lead. On the front nine of the last round Neal was one better than James and the two players were tied going to the last nine. James fought back on the back with a solid 4 under back nine, which was enough to take the title. With James already having four state spots the medal spot went Neal in second place.
The available match play spots went to Mickey DeLucca and Gary Plain.
