Andy Coradini Picks Up Third Victory of 2003 on PPA North Carolina State Tour

31 August 2003 - Martinsville, VA - Andy Coradini ended the 2003 North Carolina PPA Tour season by winning his third tour event of the season. Coradini played solid throughout the entire day on Sunday and posted a three-shot win.

Coradini opened the tournament on Course 2 in Martinsville with an opening round 23, but was sharing the lead with Opie Roberts. Coradini's years of experience outmatched Roberts in the second round. The 2001 North Carolina State Championship shot 24 in the second and was sitting in the clubhouse with a three-shot lead over Randal Smith.

Coradini was leading at 47 and never backed away from the competition. Despite firing his tournament high round 27 in the final round, Coradini coasted to a three-shot win. Coradini won his third North Carolina event this season with a final score of 74.

2003 APA Martinsville Classic Champion

Darrell Anderson worked his way to finishing second after closing second and third rounds of 25 apiece and wound up three shots back of the winner at 77. A four-way tie for third at 78 includes current State Champion Ray Guthrie, Mike Griffin, Gary Moore, and Greg Newport.

The reign of consecutive victories for Russell Sigmon, Jr. at his home course at Martinsville came to an end on Sunday as he was defeated by Dennis Biesma. Biesma shot the final two rounds of 25 and 24 to end Sigmon's run of four consecutive home course wins with a final score of 77. Sigmon finished at 81 for the second straight day, but was good enough to finish in second. David Gregor and Walter Kolb closed out the regular season finishing in a tie for third at 84.

As the regular season draws to a close, the Player of the Year in both divisions and the Team of the Year were decided. Coradini won the Player of the Year in the Pro Division for the second consecutive season, while Ricky D. Schults won the honor for the APA Division. Coradini and Rick Baird won Team of the Year for the fourth straight year.

The North Carolina tour will participate its next tournament on the weekend of September 20 & 21 in Asheboro. They will have their Teams and Match Play Championships on that weekend, with the Teams, defended by two-time defending champions Gary Hester and Michael Hitt, being played on Saturday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m. The North Carolina Match Play Championship will be played on Sunday, September 21, at 9:00 a.m., with Robert Johnson as the defending champion there.
