Coming off his first-ever GLT
title in the previous day’s Indiana Open,
Bill Baus
of Cleveland Heights, OH decided to start a collection of GLT plaques by
completing a sweep of the weekend’s individual events. Baus fired a 78
to capture the Hoosier Classic by a one stroke margin over fellow
Clevelander
Bill Thompson on Richmond’s course 3, site of last year’s GLT
Championship in which Thompson also finished as the runner-up.
Baus and Thompson shared the lead at 25 at the end of the first round
of play. In round two Baus came right back with a 26 to hold a one-shot
lead over Gene
Reams of Whitehall, OH. Thompson was two back at 53, tied with
Roger
Beckerman. Thompson, Beckerman and Reams had slow starts in the
final round, but Baus, starting on the better scoring back nine, came
out firing aces. When he got to the front nine, Baus cooled off as well,
enabling Thompson to make a move. Thompson aced six in a row and was
looking for one more at #4 to close out the round, but he was denied.
Baus now needed aces at 9, 10 and 11 to clinch the victory, and the
former National Seniors Champion responded with three aces. Baus earned
both his second GLT Title and his second GLT spot.

Scott Copeland Beats Pro by
Four to Take APA Title
22 June 2003 - Richmond, IN -
The big story of the day was in the APA division where Springfield,
Ohio’s Scott
Copeland turned in the best performance of
his putting career. Copeland was red hot all day, and his rounds of
23-27-24 totaled to a most impressive score of 74, four shots better
than PPA winner Bill Baus. Copeland won by a baker’s dozen over
Indianapolis’ Zach
Smith who finished in a distant second place at 87. Copeland has now
won four GLT APA titles this season and appears to be at the top of his
game. Smith received a GLT spot.
Anthony
Amick won the APA match play with a final match victory over Zach
Smith. Smith received his second GLT spot of the day.
