Andy Coradini
Wins in Lynchburg by Two-Strokes over Brown and Anderson
27 July 2002 - Lynchburg, VA -
A typical summer day greeted the field of 23
professionals and 17 amateurs in Lynchburg, Virginia. The three new
holes proved to be much easier than the old holes and the first two
rounds produced very low scores.Rick
Rybaczek opened with rounds of 24 and 23 to lead at 47, 25-under par.
Rybaczek held a one-stroke lead over Billy Caudle at 48 and a two-stroke
lead over Thomas Rawles at 49. Shortly after the last professional group
began their final round, the skies opened up and heavy rain nearly made
the course unplayable. However, the storm was brief and after a one hour
delay the tournament play began again.
Andy Coradini who shot 77 and Darrell Anderson who
shot 79 and were both playing in the lead group, used the advantage of
playing 12 holes before the delay and finished in first and tied for
second. Mike Brown's final round of 28 left him in a tie for second at
79 with Anderson. The average score for the third round was four strokes
higher than the second round.
In the amateur division, local amateur Wade
Driskill posted a five-stroke victory over the field of 17 amateurs with
rounds of 28, 27 and 27 for a 54-hole total of 82, 26-under par. David
Sharp of Richmond, Virginia was alone in second at 87 with five players
tied for third at 93.
