Wade Sahmel
Sweeps Weekend on
PPA Texas State Tour
12 May 2002 - Beaumont, TX - After a tough
day on Saturday the players were hoping the wind would die down to make
for an easier day of putting, it got worse instead.
David Lynch
took the opening round lead with an 8 under 28, one stroke better than
Steve
Armstrong. David and Steve swapped positions after the second round
with Steve now holding the lead by one. After the third round was
completed things had tightened up considerably for the last round. David
Lynch and Ken Beck
were now tied for the lead with Steve Armstrong one stroke back and
another four players 2 strokes back. Only one player was able shoot
lower than a 4 under the last round, that was
Wade Sahmel
with 7 under 29. This gave Wade the days win, a world spot and a weekend
sweep. State spots went to Steve Armstrong, Don Parker, and Ken Beck
In the amateur division
Steve Tanton
rode a 9-under 27 in the third round to his fourth title of year and in
the process kept the weekend from being a complete sweep by the Sahmel
brothers. State spots went to
Mickey
DeLucca,
Trevor Lewin
and Parker Beck.
