John Ventura
shot 6 consistent rounds to capture his second IPPT Tour victory in the
Central Major at Southport. Ventura put together rounds of
29-28-26-28-28-28 for a 108 hole total 167 (49 under par).
Jeff
Garrison finished second in the event one shot back at 48 under par
168. Tom Gross
finished third at 46 under par 170.
Charlie
Greenwalt was fourth at 47 under par 171.
Tom Morrison
rounded out the top five with a 44 under par 172. 37 under par 179 was
last cash.
Tom Gross took an early 4 shot lead shooting the days low round of 24
on the first 18 holes. He was able to back that up with a 25 in round 2
for a 36 hole total 49. In round three Jeff Garrison carded a 24 to move
him to with in 2 of the lead after Gross shot 31. Gross and Garrison
lead after the fourth round at 109 with Ventura just two shots behind.
Ventura took the lead after round 5 shooting consistent 28's in rounds
4,5 and 6, to hold on to the 1 shot victory.

Scott McCutchen Wins APA IPPT Central Major
18 August 2002 -
Southport, IN - Scott McCutchen won his
first tournament of the year at Southport taking home first place in the
IPPT Central Major. McCutchen fired rounds of 29-29-31-25-30-30 for a
108 hole total 174 (42 under par). Bill Hammons, fresh off his second
place finish in the APA National Tournament in Georgia, finished second
in the event just 3 shots back at 39 under par 177. Zach Smith, who won
the APA World Putting Championship in Georgia finished in a 3 way tie
for third with John Watkins and Mike McGreevy. Smith won the 3 -way
sudden death play off. McCutchen was able to grab the lead from Dave
Hager in round four shooting the days lowest round of 25. He finished
with 2 consistent rounds of 6 under 30 to win
the event
