2002 Indiana State Match-Play Title

PPA Club Pro - Tom Morrison

14 September 2002 - Indianapolis, IN - In Match Play Tom Morrison worked his way through the winners bracket to win the double elimination event. Morrison, who was seeded 17th defeated Bob Marcellino 4 and 2, Shawn Gilliland 2 and 1, Tom Gross Sudden Death 1st Hole and Jeff Garrison 2 and 1 to advance to the winners bracket finals against Charlie Greenwalt. Morrison was able to squeak by Greenwalt 1-up 18 and then waited to see who would win the Losers Bracket and advance to play Greenwalt.

Brandon Yee defeated Jeff Garrison 3 up to face Charlie Greenwalt for a chance to play Morrison for the Championship. Greenwalt prevailed 3 and 2 and won his second crack at Morrison. In the 36 hole final Morrison defeated Greenwalt 2 and 1 to capture the Match Play Title.

James Weber Wins APA State Match Play Championship

APA James Weber

14 September 2002 - Indianapolis, IN - Cincinnati Amateur Putter James Weber did not like the way he putted in his first match of the 2002 APA Indiana State Championship. Jeff Hearon of Indianapolis defeated Weber 4 and 3 to knock him into the losers bracket and a long row to hoe ahead. Weber apparently isn't afraid to "hoe" as he chopped his way through the losers bracket winning 7 straight matches to win the APA Match Play State Championship.

Weber defeated Andy McCoy 1 up, Tim Schrader 3 and 2, Jeff Hearon 2 and 1, Zach Smith 2 and 1 and Mike McGreevy 3 and 2 to advance to play John Watkins who had won the winners bracket. Weber beat Watkins in the 36 hole Match Play Tilt to force a second 36 hole match that he won 5 and 4. Watkins defeated Zach Smith SD-1, Jeff Hearon SD-1 and Mike McGreevy 2 and 1 before meeting Weber.
