Pro Tom
Gross of Columbus fired a 26 under par 82 to win the
"Race-Day.Com Open" in Columbus, Indiana. Gross put together rounds
of 29, 26 and 27 to claim his 6th Indiana Professional Putters Tour
Win.
Gross trailed
Bob
Marcellino and Jim Payne by 4 shots after round one suffering
his only bogie of the tournament on the 14th hole. Marcellino held
on to a one stroke lead after 36 holes with a 54 while Gross shot a
10 under par 26 to pull into a 3 way tie with
Jeff
Garrison and Jim Payne at 55. Gross grabbed the win on the front
nine of course 2 shooting a 6 under par 12 and then scoring an ace
on 3 of the first 4 holes on the back nine to claim a 2 stroke
victory over
John
Ventura and Jeff Garrison.

Match Play Title
11 May 2002 - Columbus, IN - If you
feel like your struggling a little with your putting, it doesn't
hurt to get some coaching from a champion. Such was the case in the
Race-Day.Com Open as
Jeff
Garrison used some helpful tips from his father Paul during
practice and not only won the Match Play Title but he locked up his
second WPC spot in the process. Garrison defeated
Shawn
Gilliland of Indianapolis 2 up in the 36 hole final to pick up
his first victory on the Indiana Tour this year. Garrison defeated
Danny
Holcomb and John Ventura to advance to the finals. Gilliland
defeated
Mark Hasty, Paul May and Jerry Pinotti to advance to the finals
and pick up his first WPC spot.
Nate
Nichols won the APA match Play Title defeating Zach Smith in the
36 hole finals 8 and 7. Nichols at one point aced 11 of 12 holes to
put the event on ice. Nichols defeated 2001 Points Champ Bill
Hammons to advance to the finals. Smith took out Dave Hager 3 and 2
and medal play winner John Watkins 4 and 3 to advance to the finals.
