14 April 2002 - Hamilton, OH -
Kevin
Lacey of Cincinnati negotiated wet carpets and a very difficult
“old-time Putt-Putt” course to claim the Queen City Classic on the Great
Lakes Tour. For the second day in a row, Kevin not only won the
tournament but also recorded the low round of the day, a 26 to start the
event. Just as the first round was completed, a heavy rain shower
delayed play for one full hour.
Kevin returned from the break with a solid 30 on the soggy greens and
enjoyed a three-stroke lead entering the last round.
Jeff
Garrison started the last round four back at 60, but went 9 for 15
to catch Lacey with just three holes left to play. Kevin aced his 53rd
hole, the drop-off, to edge Jeff by a single
shot with a final tally of 86.

For the second consecutive day in the APA division, a first-time
GLT winner emerged victorious by leading the event from wire-to-wire.
Tim
Schrader of New Bremen battled Hamilton Open winner
James Weber
to the very end to claim the victory by a single shot with a final
score of 91. Tim has been playing competitively for just over a year
and was thrilled by winning his first GLT event on the opening
weekend.
In the match play,
Anthony Amick
of Canal Winchester defeated Indiana’s
Nate Nichols
in the final match to claim his first GLT spot of the season.
The GLT wishes to express its gratitude to Tom and Dan Schuman for
hosting the opening weekend on their golf course.
