13 April 2002 - Hamilton, OH -
It’s tough to
beat Cincinnati’s
Kevin Lacey on any course, but beating him on his home
course proved to be too tall an order for the rest of the field in the
Great Lakes Tour's 2002 season opener, the
Hamilton Open. Lacey trailed the first round leader, South Euclid’s
Roger Beckerman, by two shots going into the second round. Kevin then
shot the low round of the day, a sizzling 25 on the difficult course 2,
and he never looked back. Lacey’s final tally of 82 for 54 holes bested
the field by five shots. Second place finisher,
Bill Baus of Cleveland
Heights, earned the qualifying spot for the World Match Play
Championship.

Danny continued to play well through the match play, but he came up
short against
Dave Nutini of Canal Winchester in the match play
finals.
In the APA division,
James Weber of Cincinnati led wire-to-wire on
his way to a blistering 83, eight shots ahead of his nearest competitor,
Andy McCoy of Columbus. James claimed his first victory ever on the GLT
in an outstanding performance, only one shot behind Lacey in the pros.
James swept the day’s events by then winning the match play,
defeating McCoy in the finals.
