25 August 2002 -
Columbus, OH -
Brandon
Yee of Columbus took extra time during the week to practice his home
course. Those efforts paid off for the young rookie pro as he won his
first PPA event in the 108-hole J. B.
Knight Memorial.

Anthony Amick, APA winner
of the J. B. Knight Memorial (Columbus, OH).

Yee came out of the gate strong, scorching a 21 to set a new course
record on course 1 of the Refugee Road facility. But Yee would have
company for the rest of the day from fellow Columbus player
Dave Nutini.
Nutini made his move in rounds two and three to take the lead at the
54-hole break with a score of 76, one shot ahead of Yee.
Scott
Buddie of Westlake was four back at 80, and
Mike
McCormack of Columbus was five back at 81.

In round 4 Nutini increased his margin to two shots, but some
costly bogies by Nutini in round five enabled Yee to pick up four
shots and claim the lead by two. After the final round, it was Brandon
Yee at 158, 58 under par. Nutini finished three back at 161 and
McCormack six back at 164. Rounding out the top five were
John Napoli
of Clearwater Beach, FL at 170 and
Kevin Lacey
of Cincinnati at 171. GLT spots were claimed by McCormack and Napoli,
as well as sixth place finisher
Bill
Thompson of Olmsted Falls, eighth place finisher
Rick Alessi
of Erie, PA and
John Darst
of Columbus, who placed twelfth.
Anthony
Amick of Canal Winchester took a first round lead in the APA
division and never looked back. Amick led by eight shots at the break at
81 and finished the event at 172, seven shots ahead of the threesome of
Jonathan Koo
of Richmond, VA, and Bennie Williams and
Scott Copeland,
Springfield, OH, at 179. Jeff Brown of North Olmsted was fifth at
183.
The GLT is grateful to Craig Brown, John Snyder and their staff for
their hard work to bring the Columbus course back to one of the tours
finest facilities, and for their hospitality in hosting the last regular
season major of the year. The tour looks forward to seeing Craig again
at next months GLT finals in Richmond, IN.
