Randy Reeves
playing course #2 at the Charleston, W.V. Course.
|
25 May 2002 - South
Charleston, W.V. -
Randy Reeves
made the long trip from Montgomery, AL to Charleston last year to
capture the Great Lakes Tour 2001 Travelodge
Open. This year Reeves returned to defend his title and reached the
winner’s circle in the West Virginia Open. Reeves played with both
consistency and confidence, firing three consecutive rounds of 26 to
finish with a 30-under par score of 78.
Reeves was able to adjust well to the brand new carpeting laid on
course 2 just days before the tournament. Many players were not nearly
as successful in making the required adjustments, resulting in many
putts left short in the hot sun.

Cincinnati’s
Kevin Lacey,
who have won his last four GLT events made a last round charge from
four strokes back, but cooled off toward the end of the round. Lacey’s
final tally of 81 put him in second place.
Jay Hadsell
and Jim Cruse
tied for third at 84. Each received a GLT spot, but a playoff was
necessary to determine the winner of the World spot. Hadsell claimed
the World spot in an 18-hole playoff over Cruse.
