26-27 October 2002 - Spartanburg, S.C. - Leading from the opening better-ball matches, the Virginia State Tour Hancock Cup team lead throughout the 2002 Hancock Cup matches and posted a 6.5 point victory over the North Carolina Hancock Cup Team. The North Carolina Hancock Cup Team was both the host team and the defending Hancock Cup Champions from the 2001 matches held in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Virginia Hancock Cup scored points in each match on Saturday and in the first five singles matches on Sunday setting up a dominating 13 point lead after the first round of the singles matches. Neither the South Carolina Hancock Cup team which earned 12.5 points in the second round of singles matches nor the North Carolina Hancock Cup team which earned 13.5 in the final round of singles matches could catch the team from Virginia. The defending Hancock Cup champions from the North Carolina Tour finished alone in second with the teams from South Carolina and the Great Lakes finishing in third and fourth places.
