Shannon Spitzer Sweeps Weekend on Texas State Tour
10 June 2001 - Waco, TX - The Double Elimination match competition was held in Waco this Sunday. Shannon Spitzer came through the Losers bracket to meet her father Richard Spitzer in the Finals. She took the first 18 hole match 4&3 to force a deciding 36 hole final match. Richard managed to take a 2 hole lead going to the last three holes but Shannon aced 16 and 17 to force the match to sudden death. Shannon aced the first hole giving her a weekend sweep. State spots went to Shannon and Richard.
The amateur event saw Andy Gaiser come out of the losers bracket to beat Wade Sahmel, who had put Andy into the losers bracket, in two consecutive matches to claim his first win of the season. The APA qualifying spots went to Andy Gaiser, Jack Ramsey and Steve Willmann.
