Chris Conradi Wins in Four-Way Playoff in Killeen, Texas
8 April 2001 - Killeen, TX - The Texas Putting Tour continued its season in Killeen Texas. The players knew it was going to be a tough day from the outset as the wind was blowing making the already difficult course that much harder. Chris Conradi had the event under control after the second round with a 4 stroke lead over Shannon Spitzer (making her professional debut) and Lee Messinger.
Both Greg Roberts and Jeffrey Smith charged to take the lead in the clubhouse as 14 under. Shannon managed to shoot a 5 under 31 to come in tied with Jeff and Greg. Lee Messinger fell out of contention with a 5 on hole 12 followed by a 4 on hole 14. It then fell to Chris Conradi, who had struggled through most of the last round, but was still in position to tie for the lead by making the 18th hole. The 18th at Killeen is a classic design with a large slope up to hole. Chris made the hole to make it a four way playoff for the title.
Chris and Jeff pulled away early in the playoff to make it a two man challenge with a few holes to play. Jeff and Chris came to 18th tied. Jeff missed the 18th leaving the door open for Chris who walked in with very nice ace.
In the amateur division Steve Willmann won his first event of year despite a 35 in the last round. Mike Wellborn took second place on the strength of his 29 in the second round, the lowest amateur round of the day.
