David Lynch Wins 2001 Texas TPC
9 September 2001 - Duncanville, TX - The Texas Putting tour held its
second major event of the year with the Tournament Players Championship.
In the regular state event held just prior to the TPC, Don Parker was
able to pass Tom Adair
by 3 1/2 points to claim the last spot in the TPC. The Finals came down
to the current top two ranked players in Texas, Lee
Messinger and David
Lynch. Lee started off strong taking a 3 hole lead after the first
five holes were played. David won the 6th hole closing to within 2
holes. David then managed to win 5 holes in a row starting with hole 9
giving him a 3 hole lead after 13 holes. Lee managed to close the deficit
to 1 on the 19th hole. David then fought back getting back to a 3 hole
lead by the time both players reached the 31st hole. David missed the
next 3 holes but Lee was unable to capitalize on the misses and lost 3
with 2. This is David's 2nd TPC title in the last three years.
In the amateur division brothers Adam
Sahmel and Wade
Sahmel faced off for the title. Through the first 27 holes the match
went back and forth with neither player able to gain a large advantage.
Adam aced the 28th hole and Wade's ball slid on the left rail giving
Adam the 1 hole advantage. After both players missed the 29th and 30th
holes Adam went on a serious run making the next four holes. Wade was
able to hang in, topping his brother on three of the four holes, leaving
him two down with two holes to play. Adam putted first on the 35th hole
but over hit the ball and came back down the angled hill leaving him
with a difficult 2nd putt. Adam calmly drilled the deuce putt to force
Wade to ace the hole to continue the match. Wade hit a really good putt
trapping the ball in the corner and just sliding by on the pro side off
the cup giving Adam his first amateur win on the Texas Tour.
