Randy Reeves Wins
$2,000 Hall of Fame Classic

6 August 2001 - Lynchburg, VA - Randy Reeves of Montgomery, Alabama won the $2,000 Hall of Fame Tournament in Lynchburg, Virginia defeating Jeff Smith of Dallas, Texas in an 18 hole playoff. Both players finished the 54 hole event with identical 30 under par 78's. Smith earned his spot in the play off with rounds of 27, 26 and 25, while Reeves put together rounds of 24, 23 and 31.

"The conditions were very hot and a true test for our first tournament of Championship Week, " Reeves said. "It's an honor to win the Hall of Fame tournament against the best putters in the world," he added.

Rich Gillooly of The Netherlands finished one shot off the pace with a 54 hole total 29-under par 79. "The conditions were brutally hot," Gillooly said, "but I was delighted with my play and and a third place finish."

Sixteen players earned spots in Tuesday's ProPutters.com Match Play Championship. They were Ken Hastings, Jody Comer, Kevin Garrett, Craig Williams, Gary English, Tom O'Brien, Todd Viau, Jim Cruse, David Lynch, Michael Hitt, Peter Neumann, Dave Taylor, Robb Titchell, Alan Quinnelly, Darrell Britt and Rich Gillooly. Sixteen other players were selected to fill the final spots in the Match Play Championship based on their cumulative point standing.

In the amateur division of the PPA Hall of Fame Classic, Wade Sahmel of Deer Park, Texas used a final round of 26 to overtake Malcolm Shumaker and post a one-stroke victory. Sahmel's total of 83, 25-under par, gave him the win over Malcolm Shumaker who finished alone in second at 84. In a tie for third were Jeff Brown and Wayne Saunders at 86 with Alan Sahmel and Danny Holcomb tied for fifth at 87.

Day two of Championship Week features the ProPutters.com Match Play Championship beginning at 8 a.m. The field of 64 putters will be narrowed down to the 4 who will then be featured on Television and play for the $4,000 in prize money.
