Lacey Wins 7th Event on Indiana Tour - 2001 Indiana Match Play

Lacey won the 2001 Indiana State Match Play Championship defeating
Club Pro Jim Garrison in the 36 Hole Final 2 and 1. The match was
completed at 8:45 p.m. some 6 hours and 15 minutes after the
Tournament started. A line of thundershowers halted play for about
an hour and 15 minutes.
Lacey advanced to the finals in the bottom
bracket after he was knocked out of the top bracket by Touring Pro
Tom Gross 3 and 2. Lacey worked his way past Don Featherstone 3
and 2, and Mark Hasty 8 and 6 before he faced Gross again in the
semi-finals. Lacey defeated Gross on the first hole of sudden
death to advance to the finals. Jim Garrison advanced to the
finals through the top bracket defeating Darrin Clayton 4 and 3,
John Ventura 3rd hole of Sudden Death, Shawn Gilliland 2 and 1 and
his nephew Jeff Garrison on the 1st hole of Sudden Death. The
Myers Funeral Service Indiana State Championship continues Sunday
with Medal Play and Team Competition.

Hammons won his first State Championship by winning the 2001
Indiana APA Match Play Championship at Miller's Putt-Putt in
Columbus. Hammons advanced to the finals through the bottom
bracket with wins over Nate Nichols 7 and 6 and John Watkins 2nd
hole of Sudden Death. He then repeated the feat in the finals as
Watkins advanced the finals in the top bracket. Watkins had
victories over Sean Clark 6 and 4, Dave Hager 3 and 2, Danny
Holcomb 5 and 4 and Scott McCutchen 1 up 36 holes.
