Ken Hastings Wins the First Annual Ray Browning Memorial (28-29 April 2001)

April 28-29, 2001 - Willoughby, OH - The first event on the GLT was a two day eight round event. Ken Hastings and Paul Pastilong were locked in a close battle through much of the day and ultimately had to have an 18-hole playoff for the spot. The playoff was won by Ken Hastings of Monroeville, PA and secured his first spot on the 2001 GLT. The tournament was played at the Willoughby Putt-Putt course owned by Charlotte Haggerty and manages by Pat Haggerty-Huebner.

The tournament was an eight round event and was the first of its kind on the GLT. We had a field of 32 pros and 17 amateurs. The weather was simply splendid. The leading score after the first day of play was 114 and was shot by Ken Hastings and Paul Pastilong.

The second day produced some excitement by the way of the TV Champion Kevin Lacey. Kevin came out firing on Sunday with the scores of 23 for rounds 5 and 6. This produced a one shot lead over Ken Hastings, but Ken fought back with a score of 23 to take over the lead with one round to go.

The final round Ken was able to maintain his lead and won the tournament by 2 shots. There was three-way tie for the final two spots between Roger Beckerman, Bill Baus and Paul Johns. An eighteen-hole playoff was held and Bill Baus and Paul Johns each secured spots for the 2001 finals.

Rounding out the top five in the professional field were Ken Hastings, Kevin Lacey, Todd Viau, Mark Hasty, Roger Beckerman, Bill Baus and Paul Johns.

In the amateur division, former national champion Jeff Brown came out firing with rounds of 25, 26, 24 and 29 for a second day total of 104 and over took first day leader Joe Gallagher. Joe was able to keep up his good play and finished second with a score of 235

The Great Lakes Tour next tour stop will be May 5and 6 in Mansfield, OH. We will be playing the north course on Saturday and the south course on Sunday.
