Bill Thompson Claims His First Great Lakes Tour Title of 2001

5 May 2001 - Mansfield, OH - Bill Thompson claimed his first state title of 2001 winning the Mid-Ohio Open on the Great Lakes Tour with a 54-hole score of 88, 20-under par.
The Great Lakes Tour was playing the north course for the first time on a Saturday. This course is traditionally played on Sunday, but was changed at the tour meeting earlier this year. Bill is usually a fast start in out tournaments and plays exceptionally well in the early months. There were 24 players who participated in the Mid-Ohio Open under bright sunny skies.
The match play portion of the tournament was won by the elder statesman of the tour Bill Baus.
In the amateur division, Jeff Brown continued his winning ways by shooting a final score of 91 and won by 7 strokes. This is Jeff's second spot in the finals to be held in September. In the match play event, Scott Copeland won by defeating Andy McCoy.
The next tournament to be played on the Great Lakes Tour will be the Buckeye Classic. It will be played Mansfield, OH on May 6.
