Kevin Lacey Wins the 2001 West Virginia Open Title in Charleston, WV

26 May 2001 - Charleston, WV - Kevin Lacey claimed his first state title of 2001 winning the West Virginia Open on the Great Lakes Tour with a 54-hole score of 80, 28-under par. Kevin put on a putting exhibition by winning the West Virginia Open by 7 strokes. We were playing course 3 in Charleston and this course has only been played one other time in our course rotation. The course had been power washed before we played so it made the carpet a little slower than normal.

Kevin started out the tournament shooting a 26 and a 25 to be in the clubhouse with a 51 - 21 under par. His next closes rivals were Robert Johnson and Robb Titchell and they were in with scores of 58 - 14 under par. In the last round Kevin shot a score of 29 to finish the tournament at 28 under par. The tournament was played under sunny skies.

Jim Heikkinen won the match play portion of the tournament as he defeated Ken Hastings.

In the amateur division, Robin Ventura was also as impressive with her 8 shot victory. Robin shot 84, 24 - under par while putting together scores of 29, 30, 25. Don Ferrell and Anthony Amick finished second both shooting scores of 92. In the match play event, Joe Gallagher won by defeating Don Ferrell.

The next tournament to be played on the Great Lakes Tour will be the Travelodge Open. It will be played in Charleston, WV on May 27.
