28 October 2001 - Spartanburg, S.C. - For the first time since
the 1997 Clayton Cup, played in High Point, N.C., the host team
has won the Clayton Cup. The South Carolina Clayton Cup Team edged
out the Great Lakes Tour Clayton Cup Team by three points on
Sunday to win their second consecutive Clayton Cup Title.
The South Carolina Team lead going in to the second
day of singles matches after play was completed at
roughly 9 p.m. on Saturday evening but faced a Great
Lakes Tour Team in second place that was eager to put
the memory of their 2000 Clayton Cup performance behind
them.
